Reduce the Likelihood of Violence

  • Familiarize yourself with University Policies and the Law.
  • Seek Help! Don’t know, ask questions!

Prevention Strategies to Minimize External Risk

  • If returning to campus alone late at night or early in the morning, make Campus Police aware.
  • Call for a police escort…
  • Carry a cellular phone & have emergency numbers programmed.
  • Report all safety concerns to Campus Police at 334- 244-3424.
  • Familiarize yourself with your environment and have an escape plan.
  • Attend offered Personal Safety Training Seminars.

Potential Conflict Situations that May Lead to Violence

  • Domestic Violence/Dating Violence
  • Stalking
  • Peer Conflict/Physical Violence/Verbal Abuse (Most Common)
  • Bullying
  • Sexual Violence
  • Emotional/Psychological Violence

Actions to Take in a Non-Emergency Situation

  • Contact your supervisor immediately.
  • Contact AUM Police at 244-3424. Do not call 911.
  • Campus Police will respond to all incidents reported on Campus.
    • Incident involving employees will be forwarded to AUM Human Resources Department.
    • Incidents Involving students will be forwarded to the Dean of Students.
  • Please report any circumstance that causes you to feel uneasy or uncomfortable.

What Should You Report?

  • The who. what, when, and where….
  • Name of threat maker
  • Name of victim or potential victim
  • Where and when the threat/incident occurred
  • What happened prior to the incident
  • Specific language of the threat
  • Any physical conduct that would show and that the threat is real
  • What event(s) led to the incident
  • Any history leading up to the incident
