Origins of this Resource
This resource has elements inspired, and in some cases directly curated from (with appropriate attribution), the Texas Distance Learning Association‘s Accessibility Certification.
That original workshop’s instructional designers & developers, myself included, are listed as follows. Without their mentor-ship, guidance, and creations, this resource would not be possible.

Janet Kamps
Distance Education Coordinator, Stephen F. Austin State University
Greetings from East Texas! I am the Distance Education Coordinator for Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. With the background of teaching high school Spanish to middle school students in the 1990s, I participated in numerous retreats and seminars regarding accessibility in public school. This was invaluable as I provided differentiated instruction to multiple students with individual needs in my mainstreamed classes. When I moved into higher education in 2000, this training and professional development experience helped in my work as instructional designer, distance education coordinator, and director of academic technology. I support promoting a culture of accessibility in the different facets of life so that we may all learn from each other.

I am currently the Executive Director of the Wayland Baptist online program overseeing 14 campuses and 4000 students. And I am the immediate past president of TxDLA. I started out with a Ph.D. in Neuroanatomy and taught at several universities around the world as I followed my Air Force husband. I became active in online learning in the mid 90’s with University of Illinois and University of Maryland. At that time I earned a second Ph.D in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design I have always been an advocate of good design that allows all learners to access content in a variety of ways. I am an advocate of UDL and accessibility and want to help educational institutions and corporations adopt a culture of providing accessible digital content.

Mr. Raymond Rose
e-Learning Evangelist
My major immediate focus is advocacy for accessibility in blended and online learning and websites. I wrote Access and Equity for All Learners in Blended and Online Education for iNACOLafter months of research and discussion with the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. It is a significant revision to one of the first publications on the topic, done in 2007.
I’ve been involved in online education since the mid ’90s when I first began defining and building a method of creating online learning communities. I helped envision, create, and administer the first virtual high school in the country. I have been a pioneer in the use of computers in education and raised concerns about equity in technology use early in the education technology movement. I was a Civil Rights Specialist with the Massachusetts Department of Education and with the desegregation assistance center that served New England.
