In the process of Dr. Maté’s travels, he visited with some of the global experts on the social and scientific implications of ayahuasca use. Pharmacologist Dr. Jordi Riba and psychiatrist Dr. Josep Fabregas have been involved in clinical studies spanning the last two decades: investigating the toxicity and possible uses of ayahuasca as a curative medicine. The following conversations, while somewhat technical, provide unparalleled insight into the neurological activity of ayahuasca – and how these findings put into relief the limits of modern Western medicine.
