In Chapter 2, we will explore some of the basics of genetics and biology. We will then connect these ideas to one of the developmental themes introduced earlier in the course, nature and nurture.

Learning Objectives

  • Define genes
  • Distinguish between mitosis and meiosis, genotype and phenotype, homozygous and heterozygous, and dominant and recessive
  • Describe some genetic disorders
  • Define polygenic and incomplete dominance
  • Define behavioral genetics and understand how it relates to the nature-nurture theme in child psychology
