Caspar David Friedrich - Wanderer above the sea of fog
Caspar David Friedrich, Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, 1818, oil-on-canvas, Hamburg, Kunsthalle.

You might recognize the painting on the left from HONS 126 Composing Contextually. Even if you don’t, examine it carefully. (Click through to a larger reproduction of the image.) What does the picture evoke in you? Exhilaration? Melancholy? Reverie? Fear? Past DHI students have reported all those feelings over the course of designing, completing, and sharing their thesis projects.

The thesis is the culminating experience of the Dietrich Honors Institute. It is an opportunity to develop your expertise, deepen your thinking, and share what you have learned with your colleagues and the larger world. Like the wanderer in the painting, you are beginning a journey that will end in a sublime accomplishment!
