The e-Portfolio documents teaching competencies that are not readily observable in the classroom such as curriculum planning and family newsletters.   If you completed ECPK 480 with ECPK 481 you will add to your portfolio.  If you are completing ECPK 480 this semester with ECPK 492, you will add to the portfolio as you work this semester.

The Portfolio Requirements support the 10 NAEYC standards and are outlined below:

  • Standard 1: Relationships Evidence Collection and Written Analysis
  • Standard 2: Curriculum Evidence Collection and Written Analysis includes Thematic Unit planner, 10 Lesson plans, Unit reflections
  • Standard 3: Teaching Evidence Collection and Written Analysis
  • Standard 4: Assessment of Child Progress and Written Analysis
  • Standard 5: Health Not required for ECPK 492 (Completed in ECPK 480)
  • Standard 6: Staff Competencies, Preparation and Support Not required for ECPK 492 (Completed in ECPK 480)
  • Standard 7: Families Evidence Collection
  • Standard 8: Community Relationships Evidence Collection and Written Analysis
  • Standard 9: Physical Environment Not required for ECPK 492 (Completed in ECPK 480)
  • Standard 10: Leadership and Management Not required for ECPK 492 (Completed in ECPK 480)
  • Individual Continuous Quality Improvement Plan
  • NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement on Commitment

There are a total of  500 points possible on the portfolio. For each standard, describe and analyze the practices, policies, materials and/or activities that support your abilities by:

1.) Using the “Evidence Table” to document your evidence (1-3 sentences) of the practices, policies, materials and/or activities that support your competencies. Evidence can be obtained from:

  • published program materials (ex. marketing brochure, family handbook, program web site, etc.);
  • program policies;
  • materials;
  • BSU and site supervisors’ observation notes; and
  • most importantly, your practice.

2.) Providing an Analysis that details your strengths. Claims should be based on your evidence collected, and supported by references to the NAEYC Standards noted above. Analysis should indicate a clear connection between your strengths and the impact they have on program quality (child outcomes). Focus areas may be combined in this section; you do not need to provide an analysis for each individual NAEYC topic area.

3.) Provide an Analysis that details your areas for improvement. Claims should be based on your evidence collected, and supported by references to the NAEYC Standards noted above. Analysis should indicate a clear connection between your areas for improvement and the impact they have on program quality (child outcomes). Focus areas may be combined in this section; you do not need to provide an analysis for each individual NAEYC topic.

4.) Provide a Self-Evaluation of your current level of program quality in each of the topic areas. Your evaluation should be based on the evidence you collected, as well as your analysis of strengths and areas for improvement.

5.) Professional writing, grammar and spelling – this narrative should be double spaced, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. Your narrative should adhere to the rules of grammar, usage, and punctuation. Spelling should be correct. Section transitions should be present and logical, and maintain the flow throughout the paper. The tone should be appropriate to the content and assignment.
