Our first step in writing a book collaboratively was to determine our why – what was it we hoped to achieve through this project? We looked at what the past cohorts had done and appreciated their focus on educational technology and readying educators to embrace 21st Century teaching and the leadership necessary to adopt those approaches.

However, we wanted to focus on educational leaders. Technology has great possibilities for us in our various contexts. The sometimes false promises of technology, though, can also hinder us from thinking as strategically as we need to in order to best meet our students’ needs.

We have been inspired by each of the people we were able to interview for the book.

Their candor in sharing struggles and failures reminds us that none of this is easy, but it is worth pursuing.

The way in which our interviewees were able to generate a shared vision for the ways in which technology can accelerate learning and engage students was edifying. We thank them for their time and for sharing their expertise.

Thank you for reading this book. It took a lot of effort to create it. However, it was all worth the investment of our collective time and talents because of the ways in which these stories may be amplified by people like you. Please consider passing the book on to someone else who may benefit from reading about these leaders’ lessons, or initiate a conversation of your own with an influential person in your district, asking some of the same questions that were posed here.

May we all continue to find ways to ignite our leadership with technology and to share those practices with others.
