As usual, the MSM coverage has been dreadful. The notion that the Democrats are proposing this because it benefits them politically is treated as scandalously as the NYTimes treated Whitewater and the damn emails-it’s clear they find this shocking it’s just not at all clear why.

And the obvious riposte is the GOP is so against it because it would really hurt them politically. Again, the big theme of this book is the GOP working feverishly to install minority rule in American by any means necessary a la Malcom X.

There’s no better example of this than the fact that the last two GOP Presidents ‘won’ despite getting the minority of the vote.

FN: You can say that the GOP has managed to win a majority of the vote only once since 1988-in 2004. But it’s even worse than that as W was only in position to win a majority of the vote in 2004 by winning despite a minority of the vote in 2000.

There is this ‘smart set’ take that it actually makes no difference as if there were no EC then candidates-GOP candidates-would campaign differently. If so than great. I mean if no EC would force the GOP to actually speak to the majority rather than minority of the country is this supposed to be a bad thing?

But the GOP freakout over this proposal shows that ending the EC in fact is a existential threat to the modern GOP as currently constituted. Again, the whole premise of this book is that the GOP has chosen rather than to adjust to a changing electorate to stand athwart history and yell stop! a la William F. Buckley.

Can anyone deny this?
