And even Lawrence O’Donnell who actually got quite self righteous over something that was a totally phony issue.

Even worse that he said this on Morning Joe.

Chris Hayes asking about if she’ll be indicted…

The only one totally innocent is: Rachel Maddow, she alone among MSM pundits wasn’t freaking out night after night about ‘But her emails!’ While she didn’t push back against the Emailgate narrative, unlike Hayes, she didn’t help normalize it.

What was different about Hillary and Emailgate as opposed to Trump and Russiagate is that Trump always has plenty of sycophants to defend the indefensible every day. NO ONE was willing to defend her on the emails. Her use of a private server was treated like some sort of great crime where it’s outrageous to relativize it in any way by comparing to other crimes.

Lets’ be clear-a large part of how ‘Lock Her Up!’ became a thing is by the media’s constant drumbeat during the 2016 campaign. They treated it as a live possibility and so ingrained this in the public that when Comey did clear her-in his highly inappropriate press conference-on July 5, 2016, the majority of the public thought she should have been indicted.

As is clear I also hold Comey responsible for this public misconception but the media was his partner, his co-conspirator in creating an expectation that she would be going to prison. Now Comey assures us there’s zero chance she gets prosecuted  but his actions-along with tremendous ampliication by the media-created the space where to this day many are still calling for her to be locked up.

The media’s complicity in Emailgate explains why there’s been so little reporting on it.
