Coronavirus Pandemic

If you were to ask someone in the 20th century what the year 2020 would be like, they would probably tell you there would be flying cars, floating houses, and time travel. But anyone living in 2020 would tell them it’s going to be a living hell due to the Coronavirus. The first case of Coronavirus appeared on November 17th, 2019 in Wuhan China and the world has not been the same since. In March 2020, Coronavirus was officially declared a pandemic and countries had to take action by implementing new policies and social restrictions.  COVID-19 has completely changed the way of life, and has had a massive impact on the year 2020.

In order to best control the spread of the virus, new rules and mandatory protocols have been implemented in order to keep the world safe.  However, all of the new social restrictions have led to negative impacts on society.  While put into place with the best interest of society’s safety and health in mind, social restrictions have led to decreases in economic activity, quality of life, physical activity, and the interaction with players and favorite sports teams.  In addition, the newly enforced social restrictions have led to increases in social media usage, anxiety, depression, and technology use for virtual fans and entertainment. The impact of the pandemic is something that will be analyzed for years to come because of differing adjustments people made to overcome challenges faced on an individual basis. The innovations in business have allowed economic activity to continue, but it is continually analyzed to see if it is the most efficient way to operate under a pandemic.

Furthermore, mental health of the overall population has steadily declined over the course of the pandemic. Those that have been impacted the most include patients and medical professionals. Additionally, COVID-19 has also left many individuals in marginalized communities in hospital beds trying to survive this vicious disease. Black and Hispanic people have had the highest death rates out of all of races due to their socioeconomic status and their health. Systemic racism has also played a role in the disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on minorities because a lot of individuals who contracted the virus lived in poverty due to their minimum wage jobs. It continues to have a huge impact on people’s mental health as well as domestic abuse. On top of that, Covid-19 has led politicians to establish laws, policies, and regulations to keep everyone safe and protected  during the global pandemic. COVID-19 has impacted society in almost every way.
