Intro to Generative A.I.

In this section, we provide a introduction to generative artificial intelligence, describe its capabilities and limitations, and review some of the specific implications for higher education.

This section is divided into three chapters:

What is Generative A.I.?

This chapter will introduce you to generative A.I.—what it is, how it works, and its potential for reshaping teaching and learning in higher education.

Limitations and Risks

As with any technology, there are limitations and risks to genA.I. In this chapter, we outline general risks, including biases in training data, its labour and environmental impacts, and the risks of dis- and misinformation, and issues around copyright and data privacy and security.

GenA.I. in Higher Ed Classroom

Generative A.I. intersects with higher education in ways that prompt us to ask questions about context-specific implication. How will we need to redefine academic integrity? How do we protect our own or students’ intellectual property? How do we ensure equitable access to genA.I. tools?
