Preparing to learn at your internship agency

Did you know that anxiety is one of the most common emotions, along with excitement, for students beginning their internship? Explore ideas for identifying and managing the myriad of emotions as you begin.

During the first days of your internship, you will learn about your agency.  Your supervisor is one of the most important people you will work with, in addition to clients. S/he/they will guide you in your learning, provide you with the opportunity to process that learning, and support you in meeting your goals. This section provides basic and specific ideas to help you build a strong relationship with your supervisor.

Safety concerns have increased over time in social work. We work with clients who are experiencing difficult situations. Understanding our underlying response to potential issues, assessing if issues are present, and determining effective strategies are critical to social work. This section provides an overview that you can then discuss with your supervisor and social work liaison.
