image Mrs. Karen Hardin began her journey in healthcare with a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree in 1976. While working to attain her Master’s degree, she worked as a registered nurse in the local emergency room. In 1979 she achieved a Master of Science in nursing degree and began to work as a director of nursing in 1980. Looking to gain more leadership experience in a different type of organization she transferred to another state to work as Director of Nursing for a small hospital in 1985. Always able to easily form connections and build relationships, she took a higher administrative position which allowed her to assume greater leadership responsibilities. In 1987 she accepted positions as Director of Oncology Nursing and Director of Hospice. Working in these positions gave her the knowledge and skills she felt needed to be passed onto the next generation of nurses. In 1991 she began teaching in an Associate Degree Nursing program where she stayed for one year and affirmed her desire to teach in the field of higher education. In 1992 she accepted a position with her Alma Mater Clemson University, where she was responsible for teaching and supervising senior nursing students in the areas of critical care, fundamentals, nursing assessment, pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, and her passion which is nursing leadership. In 2013 Karen left Clemson to bring her knowledge, skills, and expertise to teach with a newly formed Accelerated and Traditional Nursing Program. To further seal her mark of professionalism as a nursing education leader she became certified as a nurse educator (CNE) in 2013. Having the desire to affirm her knowledge and expertise in leadership strategy, high-level finance, resource management, and system integration, she achieved the ANCC Nurse Executive Advanced board certification examination (NEA-BC) in 2019. After over 30 years of experience in nursing gained through executive leadership positions and academic teaching, Karen retired from higher education in 2021. She currently spends her time traveling to see her three adult children, their respective spouses, a total of five grandchildren & one grand-dog.
