Marking Emotion

Have students access the student chapter Why School Should Start Later and read through it with the class. Have them use the interactive activity to mark every word  that has an emotional connotation.

 

When students have finished the activity, ask them:

 

Did they agree about which words had emotional connotations and which didn’t?

Which words had positive connotations and which had negative ones?

How do those connotations make them feel?

How much does the article rely on positive or negative words to make its point? How much does it rely on arguments and evidence?
