Reflection
Point out to students that the jobs they have learned about are only a few of the people involved in making a movie or TV show. In fact, the average movie has almost six hundred people working on it, and some have thousands. Other media, like comics, games or apps, are also made by many people working together, from artists to coders to designers.

Remind students of the learning goals for the lesson:
We are learning to understand…
Media works are made by many people whose choices affect the final work
Different media communicate in different ways and using different codes and conventions
Many parts of a media text, such as sound effects, are carefully chosen and created for specific effects
Foley artists use many different techniques to achieve particular sounds and sound effects
You may choose to assign the final reflection question as a take-home writing assignment or an exit ticket, make it a class discussion, or have students record a reflection using a social learning platform. (See https://alternativeto.net/software/flipgrid/ for possible tools. Confirm with your school or school board that the tool has been approved for classroom use.)
Think of a media work you’ve seen recently where the choices one of the creators made had a big effect on its impact on you. How does what you learned in this lesson make you see it differently?
Prompts:
- Are there movies or TV shows that would have been very different if the casting director had chosen someone else for a key role?
- Ones where they can remember very striking shots chosen by the cinematographer?
- Ones where they remember how the lighting director used light or colour or the composer used music for a particular effect?
- Ones where the music had a big impact on the emotional effect of the movie?
