K. Media Plan

This section outlines our intentions to highlight and amplify AFCP-supported activities through print, electronic, and social media platforms.

Grant products will be disseminated widely, locally through file-sharing and globally through internet posting and streaming. Local file-sharing is essential to avoid the “extractive” nature of documentation and preservation projects of the past. Although Internet availability is rapidly expanding in Nigeria, many people in host communities live by subsistence farming with limited engagement in commercial markets and currency. Therefore, true accessibility for the host community to grant products must be carefully considered. For this reason, we have developed a media plan that emphasizes accessibility for stakeholders through multiple formats and dissemination channels:

A) Ethnic minority inventory data will be added to KWEF’s existing online Atlas of Nigerian languages and made publicly available as collected and checked. Data will be anonymized where necessary.

B) Audiovisual material (wordlists, music recordings, speech) will be:

  • posted to the Atlanta University Center Institutional Repository (RADAR) and preserved in dark storage with pathways to maintain and restore local and global accessibility in the future: radar.auctr.edu
  • Locally accessible in host communities through peer-to-peer distribution by Bluetooth file sharing
  • Globally accessible through open-access and ad-free streaming (e.g., on YouTube/Vimeo). ADEPt’s YouTube page has 30,000 subscribers and over 8,000,000 views: youtube.com/@ADEP
  • Shared to social media Facebook, Instagram, and X.

C) Journal articles describing the project will be prepared and submitted for publication.

D) Lead researchers will produce blog entries for each organization’s websites (RADAR, KWEF, CONAECDA) to inform the broader public of the progress of the project.

E) We will also regularly update the Public Affairs Sections of the US Mission in Nigeria of landmarks in the project, particularly public releases of inventories and audiovisual collections.
