This book is dedicated to my great-grandfather, Julius Kirmse, and my grandparents, William and Martha (Cordes) Kirmse.  When I was young, my Kirmse grandparents told me stories about the past history of our family. It was through my grandparents that I first learned about my great-grandparents and in turn gave me the incentive to research my family history.
