This Auswanderungsschein (Emigration Permit) granted Julius Kirmse permission to emigrate to America and released him from all obligations to the Duchy of Altenburg. From Julius Kirmse’s emigration permit, we know his ancestral home, his destination and the approximate date of his emigration.

Following the decision by the ducal state government here to grant

Julius Kirmse of Fichtenhainichen

his request to emigrate to America, released from all duties of a subject of the Duchy of Altenburg, the approval of the petition is hereby certified.

  1. Julius Kirmse is from the village of Fichtenhainichen in the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg.  
  2. The date appears on a crease of the document making it difficult to read. When magnified, the date is 3 February 1853.
