BURNS ARE FATAL TO MRS. BRUNKEN
Platte Center Farm Woman Dies of Injuries From Explosion Saturday
Mrs. Henry Brunken, 47, living on a 10 farm seven miles northwest of Platte Center, succumbed at 9:20 a.m, today at Lutheran Good Samaritan hospital, from burns received in an explosion at her home Saturday afternoon. She was given treatment at home, and later was brought to the hospital here for medical attention.
The accident occurred when Mrs. Brunken. opened the stove to see if the fire were burning after she had replenished the fuel supply a short’ time before. When she opened the door the coal gas exploded and ignited her clothing, which caused serious burns on the upper part of her body and hands.
With her In the home at the time, was her nine-year-old daughter, Luella. Mrs. Brunken ran out of doors, calling for help, and her son, Leonard, 16, came to her aid and extinguished the flames.
As Miss Anna Hueschen, she was born Jan. 26, 1888, in Grand Prairie township, and spent her entire life in Platte county. On Mar. 22, 1916 she was married to Henry Brunken: They lived for a time in Monroe and Platte Center, and for the last several years resided on farms northwest of Platte Center.
She was a devout member of the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Zion Lutheran church west of Platte Center. Resides her husband, her son and daughter, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Agna Hueschen, of Platte Center, a sister, Mrs. Charles Weber, of Columbus, and a brother, Henry Hueschen. of Platte Center. Four children preceded her in death.
Funeral services, will be held at I:30 p. m. Friday at the family home, followed by church services at 2.p. m. ‘at the Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. E. Holm, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in the cemetery near the church. The body is at the McKown funeral home and will be taken to  the family home before the services.
