BRUNKEN – Services’ will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel for Edward W. Brunken, 80, who died Wednesday night in Knoxville, Iowa. He was a former Platte County resident.
The Rev. B.F. Meschke will officiate, and burial will be’ in Columbus Cemetery with military graveside rites for the World War I veteran. His body lies in state at the funeral chapel.
Son of John and Johanna Plath Brunken, he was born Nov. 23, 1893 in Platte County, where he attended rural school and Christ Lutheran Parochial School.
He served in the Army’s 18th Field Artillery, Sept. 9, 1917 to Sept. 24, 1919, with duty in France.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Louise) Karlin, Mrs. Anna Roesch; and one bother, Emil Brunken, all ol Columbus. He was preceded in death by six brothers, one sister, also an infant brother and sister.
