KARLIN—Herman H. Karlin, 79, of 1062 20th Avenue, died Sunday morning in the Columbus Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, preceded by a 9:45 a.m. family prayer service. Rev. M.W. Goldhammer will officiate and military graveside rites will be held in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.
The body lies in state today at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel; 9-10 am. Tuesday at the church. Lifetime Columbus resident, Mr. Karlin retired from the post office in 1957 after 38 years as a mail carrier.
He was born here Aug. 14, 1897 to Jacob and Amelia (Eichorst) Karlin and attended Columbus schools. On Nov. 16, 1921 he married Louise Brunken in Columbus.
A World War I veteran who served with the Army in France, Mr. Karlin was a charter member, life member and past commander of Hartman Post, American Legion; life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; former member of the 40 & B and the Drum and Bugle Corps.
He was also past president of the Nebraska Letter Carrier Assn. and a former member of the Columbus Volunteer Fire Dept. (Hook and Ladder Co.). He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran laymen’s League.
Surviving are his wife; son, Gerald of Lenexa, Kan.; daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Mildred) Meyn of Omaha; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. B.F. (Hilda) Gardner and Elvinn Karlin of Columbus. Two brothers, R.I. and Emil, and a twin sister, Marie preceded him in death.
