OBITUARY: Mrs. Brunken Dies, Funeral Services on Wednesday
Funeral Services for Mrs. Johanna Brunken, 96, who passed away at 2 a.m. today at her home at 1063 Twenty-fourth avenue, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran church with Rev. A.H. Guettler, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be made in the Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of services at the Gass Funeral Home.
Johanna Plath was born Feb. 22, 1853, at Ratzbarg, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Plath. She came to America when she was 18 years of age. She lived in Platte county for 71 years.
She received her education in Germany and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Ratzeberg, Germany. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church of Columbus and of the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid.
She was married to John Brunken on March 25, 1873, at Passaic, New Jersey.
She is survived by six sons, J.L. and Carl H. Brunken of Columbus; Henry F. of Venus, Calif.; Emil of David City; and Edward of Knoxville, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. Fredricka Witt, Mrs. Anna M. Roesch and Mrs. Louise Karlin, all of Columbus; one sister Mrs. Kusant, of Columbus; 39 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; and to great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four children, William L., Otto, Edwin, and Lena.
