Ida Martensen
When Ida Lucia Martensen was born on June 11, 1858, her father, Broder, was 35, and her mother, Christina, was 26. She married Carsten Petersen on March 30, 1887, in Columbus, Nebraska. They had five children in 10 years. She died on May 24, 1913, in Platte Center, Nebraska, at the age of 54, and was buried there.
The following is a confirmation portrait of Ida Lucia Martensen.
- WHO: Ida Lucia Martensen – based on caption at top of the photograph
- WHEN: Circa 1873. The date noted on the picture is about 1888 – but probably was Circa 1873
- WHERE: Hockensbüll, Schobüll, Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark – based on photographer imprint at the bottom of the photograph
- SOURCE: Linda Gehring
- NOTES: Given the apparent Bible that Ida is holding, I am assuming that this is Ida Lucia Martensen’s confirmation photograph. Ida’s youngest brother, Christian Lorenz Martensen, was born 14 Sep 1871 and was confirmed on 3 Apr 1887 and as such was 15 years old when he was confirmed. Ida was born 11 Jun 1858 so I am assuming the Ida was confirmed about 1873 and this was the date that the above photograph of her was taken.

A photograph of Carsten and Ida Lucia (Martensen) Petersen probably a year or so before Ida’s death May 24, 1913.
- LEFT TO RIGHT: Ida Lucia (Martensen) Petersen, Carsten Petersen, Sr.
- WHEN: Circa 1910 – Carsten looks younger than he appears is in a circa 1920 photograph, and he is considerably older than he appears in a Circa 1905 family photograph. For now I am estimating the date to be Circa 1910.
