Self-Care Starter Kit, from University of Buffalo’s School of Social Work

This is a collection of self-care resources and information, compiled by the University of Buffalo’s School of Social Work. There is general information about self-care, as well as specific resources designed for individuals to develop their own personalized self-care plans.

International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice

This organization was founded in Thailand, with the intent of promoting goals of “feminism, social activism, and spiritual practice” (International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice, 2015, para. 1). This organization, in addition to advocating for social justice causes, provides courses in areas such as “anti-oppression, Buddhist peacebuilding”, and how to use Buddhist teachings to promote social change (International Women’s Partnership for Peace and Justice, 2015, para. 1). This organization blends social justice and self-care through its use of meditation on different subjects to build more balance within individuals, so they can be more effective advocates for social justice.

The Fireweed Collective

The Fireweed Collective is a non-profit organization that provides “mental health education and mutual aid through a Healing Justice lens” (Fireweed Collective, 2020, para. 1). They go on to explain that the concept of Healing Justice is a framework to address the areas of “racial justice, disability justice, and economic justice” (Fireweed Collective, 2020, para. 1). This organization is aimed at providing resources for members of marginalized communities. They provide a lot of resources, including webinars and reading materials.

RECLAIM is targeted at providing information and support for individuals for queer and trans individuals, located in Minnesota. They work to provide mental health support resources for queer and trans youth. They established Project CLEAR to provide seminars about how queer and trans individuals can form and engage in healthy sexual relationships.

National Alliance on Mental Illness

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provides information and resources to help individuals recognize signs of mental illness in themselves or in others in their community. They provide information about different types of mental illness, and how to connect with others and receive support for various mental health issues.

The Jed Foundation

The Jed Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide resources and education to promote mental health and awareness for young individuals. The Jed Foundation works to create seminars to utilize in secondary and higher education institutions, in order to encourage young people how to promote better mental health, and to know available resources when they are suffering from mental health issues.

An interactive game designed to help an individual identify their current needs for self-care. I personally find this game extremely helpful in identifying my needs. It asks a series of questions and gives you prompts to help resolve any issues that may be causing you to feel poorly. It is an excellent tool to use if you struggle with identifying your own needs or executive dysfunction.
