Part III: Poetry Readings

Poetry can be analyzed just as readily as drama and fiction. As you do so, it is important to remember that the narrative persona (i.e., the speaker within the poem) is not always a direct autobiographical representation of the poet. Rather, the poem’s narrator should be treated as any other character in literature: a creation of the author’s imagination that may or may not bear resemblance to the author.
