About the Author: Your journey and expertise

Evelyn Chan is a Learning Experience Designer working in the Ontario college sector, where she supports faculty in designing clear, engaging, and accessible online learning experiences. Although her formal HR title is Learning Technologies Specialist, her role has expanded since 2021 to include responsibilities in educational technology and digital content development, and this title transition to Educational Technology and Digital Content Specialist is in progress.

Her Quality Matters (QM) journey began while developing OntarioLearn courses, where she recognized the need for consistent, well-aligned course design across institutions. This interest in quality assurance led her to pursue deeper learning through QM, earning credentials as both a QM Peer Reviewer and a QM Master Reviewer. She has completed internal and external QM reviews for several institutions across North America, expanding her understanding of alignment, measurable learning outcomes, accessibility, and intentional online course structure.

In her work as a Learning Experience Designer, she collaborates closely with faculty to guide course development, improve accessibility practices, enhance navigation and clarity, and integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Her hands-on experience helping instructors navigate course design challenges inspired her to create the George Brown TLX Course Quality Checklist, a simplified and practical tool that introduces faculty to QM principles through small, manageable steps.

She wrote this book to share her journey, lessons learned, and practical strategies with colleagues and educators who want to strengthen online learning. Her goal is to support instructors in building confidence with course design, encourage continuous improvement, and foster a stronger culture of quality in higher education.
