Keep An Eye On The Paranoid Guy

It’s kind of a circular problem. He’s jumpy because he senses that he’s being watched. And we are watching him because he’s jumpy and we don’t know what he’s going to do next. I can’t even remember who started this pattern.

Who are “we”? Don’t ask. We don’t share that kind of information. We only share things on a need to know basis. But call me Don. I’m a bit drunk so I’m talking today. But keep everything I tell you on the q-t.

So, as I said, we’re watching this guy.

He goes to work. Takes lunch alone at a diner. Back to work. Subway home. I assume the lady at the door is his wife. So, we watch, take notes and photos, send the material to headquarters.

To an amateur, the guy exhibits no suspicious activity, but we are professionals. We see things you’d miss. I’ll give you a for instance. Look at his shoes. The wear on them. Uneven, see? He favors his left foot. That must mean something; I don’t know what just yet, but something.

We watch him all the time. Tom and I take shifts. The night shift is boring except when the target and his presumed wife are getting it on. The new cameras work great and they’re everywhere. On a long dull night, sometimes I watch “reruns.”

Last week Tom was spotted by the guy. He looked upset, then nervous. He yelled something about “leave me alone” but of course we can’t do that. We do our jobs.

Today was a little different. Tom and I were both watching the target together. It was freaky. He spotted both of us, watching from either side. He was yelling and the veins in his neck were bulging. Then, he clutched his chest and dropped to the ground. His visibly pregnant wife (or presumed wife) ran out in front of his house and leaned over him.

Tom and I just reported this to headquarters. Now we are awaiting further instructions.
