Smart Guns

Suddenly, all guns became smart guns. They won’t kill their users and they automatically kill those who threaten them. Military leaders around the world are terrified of these weapons. Every time a soldiers pulls a trigger, his commanding officer dies.

It’s become difficult to get commanding officers so the military reorganized. They tried sending soldiers into battle with no hierarchical structure, only written orders and battle plans. The battle planners stayed comfortably behind in Virginia or Washington D.C. or California. That didn’t last long. When the first shots of battle started, the military planners were found dead at their desks by bullet wounds from unknown assailants.

The murders remain unsolved, but the bullets are standard issue military ammo. Military planners became scarce.

So soldiers were sent into battle, heavily armed, with no leaders and no battle plans. Everything got real quiet. No reports from the front. Generals and politicians were afraid to go, so they sent a journalist to investigate.

Brad Altman ventured into the desert, fearful of the enemy but also leery of allied soldiers. After a few days, he found them. All of them. They were playing cards with the enemy and laughing.
