Introduction

Math anxiety is a widespread and often misunderstood barrier to student learning and confidence. For many elementary learners negative experiences with math can shape their academic self-concept and future achievement. This document was created in response to the growing recognition that math success is not only about content knowledge it is also deeply tied to emotion, identity and environment.

This resource is designed for educators, parents, and caregivers who want to foster positive math mindsets and create low-pressure supportive learning spaces. Grounded in current research in classroom practice the materials in this book offer practical strategies, printable tools, and reflection templates to reduce stress and build confidence in young mathematicians.

Whether you are a classroom teacher looking to adjust your math instruction or a parent hoping to encourage math confidence at home this resource offers a flexible supportive entry point into a more compassionate and effective math experience.

Let’s help every child believe: “I can do math.”

This resource is written with you in mind, parents, caregivers, and educators who want to better understand and support children experiencing math anxiety. While my graduate research is grounded in academic studies and educational theory, I chose to write this information in a more approachable, less formal style. That’s because the people who need this information most should be able to easily find helpful, practical ideas.

Research shows that people engage more deeply with learning when it feels relevant, clear, and respectful of their time and experience. I wanted this resource to feel useful. So instead of long theoretical explanations, you’ll find clear language and suggestions you can try right away.

That said, everything in this book is grounded in research. For those who want to explore the research more deeply, I’ve included references at the end of the book. You’re invited to dive into the science behind these strategies if and when it’s helpful for you.
