As with every technology, there are some things that Pressbooks doesn’t do so well. Though Pressbooks is built on WordPress, not all of the useful WordPress features are available. For instance, in the free version of Pressbooks there currently doesn’t seem to be any good way to embed PDF Files or Google Docs, and embedding YouTube videos requires the use of a short code that many users wouldn’t know about.
Copy/pasting works pretty well for getting text from a source onto your Pressbooks page, but some images don’t come through correctly. The option to import content by “scraping content from a URL” does grab most of the content from the web page, though not with complete accuracy, especially with regard to formatting and an error message tends to occur, though the import usually goes through.
It is important to remember that Pressbooks is a freemium service. While the free version offers significant functionality, especially compared to many “free” versions of other services and technologies on the web, there are some things in free Pressbooks that might be undesirable, like ads in ebooks and watermarks on every page in PDF files.
