God of forever and God of this moment,

you watch and work
from ancient times,
in now, and
for ever.

We only live now.

We light candles.
We say “I love you”.
We lie down and get up.

Tiny actions in this moment that feel almost useless sometimes.

They would be if not for you
who gave us light,
who gives us love,
who laid down your life and got up.

At Advent we do our best to remember that you were and are and will be.
And we pray that you forgive us when we forget.
And this candle we light to remember.
