In this issue we include a special “From the Editors” a series of reflections and remembrances on the first thirty-three years of the Shawangunk Review featuring all current and past editors. This is the first of what will be several memorials to Harry R. Stoneback, our founding editor who died late in 2021. Of the many contributions Prof. Stoneback made to the culture of the English department at New Paltz, the Review has been one of the most significant. Over its uninterrupted run of more than thirty years, it has given our MA students the opportunity to see their names in print alongside luminaries from the field of literary studies as well as cultural icons. Just as Prof. Stoneback imagined in the first issue in 1989, it is a forum that represents the best work of students in our program, alumni, and friends of the department far and wide.

The current issue carries on in this proud tradition: Volume XXXIII of the Shawangunk Review features the proceedings of the 2021 English Graduate Symposium, “The Literature of the New Millennium,” directed by Associate Professor Kristopher Jansma. On behalf of the Graduate Program, we want to thank all participants, including our invited speaker, Matt Bell of Arizona State University, for their contributions to this issue. Thanks are also due to Vicki Tromanhauser, English Department Chair, for her support of the event.

The submission deadline for Volume XXXIV of the Review is December 15, 2022. We welcome poetry, book reviews, and critical essays concerning any area of literary studies. Please see submission guidelines here. In that issue we will have a special section for poetry and prose commemorating H. R. Stoneback, in whose honor the Symposium is being held, organized by Prof. Fiona Paton, in 2023. Please submit your contributions to this section by the same December 15 deadline.
