Volume XXIX of the Shawangunk Review brings many firsts: Andrew Higgins, Associate Professor and Department Chair, showcases in print for the first time in more than 100 years the writings of Hudson Valley poet Alfred B. Street; the volume includes essays from the winner and runners-up for the English Department’s first Graduate Student Essay Award; and this content, for the first time, will be available in both print and digital formats. Other more familiar features of the publication remain: the proceedings of the 29th Annual Graduate Symposium, “Flexible Forms,” organized last year by our former colleague, Assistant Professor Joanna Swafford (now a Digital Specialist at Tufts University), selections of poetry drawn from the talents of students, faculty, and friends of the English department, and news and notes from our alumni. Our thanks to Professor Caroline Levine for her permission to reprint her Symposium keynote address in this volume.

Submissions for Volume XXX of the Review (including entries for next year’s Essay Award) will be accepted through December 15, 2018. We welcome poetry, book reviews, and critical essays concerning any area of literary studies. Please see submission guidelines on p. 195.
