The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered in the College of Business (COB) at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) has six majors:

  • Accounting (ACCT)
  • Energy Land Management (ENLM, aka Landman, new in Fall 2020)
  • Finance (FINA)
  • Healthcare Management (HLCM, new in Spring 2021)
  • Management (MNGT)
  • Marketing (MRKT)

The degree is 120 hours. Seventy percent of the requirements (84 hours) are common to all majors. Thirty percent (36 hours) are major specific. I’ve broken those requirements into six blocks:

  • Lower-level (60 hours)
    • Block 1 – General education common core (Gen Ed, 42 hours)
    • Block 2 – Lower-level business core (17 hours)
    • Block 3 – Freshman seminar or free elective (1 hour)
  • Upper-level (60 hours)
    • Block 4 – Upper-level business core and capstone course (24 hours)
    • Block 5 – Major requirements and Block 6 – business electives (36 hours)

These are the current requirements. The BBA degree experienced considerable (and all-too-frequent) upheaval between 2015 and 2020 due to changes at the state level in the Gen Ed and the business field of study (FoS)—and our clumsiness in getting the degree correctly aligned with those new requirements. I’ll talk about older degree plans later in this guide.
