For ACCT, FINA, MNGT, and MRKT BBA students,[1] we offer specialized certificates in:
- Energy Business,
- Healthcare Management,
- and Digital Commerce (new in 2020).
If the student doesn’t finish the BBA or changes their degree to something else, they are not awarded the certificate. Students who already have a BBA from UTPB or an equivalent business degree from another university can come back and take courses to get the certificate added to their degree.
REQUIREMENTS
The student must complete 12 hours of designated electives and earn a C or better in each course. These electives are applied to the students degree as major electives and business electives.
Note that some certificates allow the student to take non-business courses. These must be applied as business electives, not major electives. Note also that if the student does not complete the certificate, those non-business courses can no longer be used as business electives. That is, we allow certain non-business courses in the BBA only if they were taken as part of a completed certificate program.

It is important to note that the Certificate in Digital Commerce was designed for MRKT majors. The MRKT degree plan is really the only BBA degree plan that has room for four MRKT electives. Any ACCT, FINA, or MNGT majors who would like to pursue the Certificate in Digital Commerce would have to go beyond the 120 hours for the degree in order to get that many MRKT electives.
Footnotes
- I suppose Healthcare and Landman majors could do certificates, but their degree plans don't have the room for the necessary classes. The certificates were designed to supplement the original, less-specialized BBA majors, not the specialized majors that grew out of them (i.e., HLCM and ENLM). ↵
