13.1.3 Weak Points and Counterarguments

Argument: There is no physical evidence of unidentified flying objects.

Rebuttal: The origins and physical evidence of unidentified flying objects still remain unclear. To the publics’ knowledge, there is no physical evidence of unidentified flying objects. However, Carl Sagan once said, “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.” (Sagan)

Argument: Sightings of unidentified flying objects are only recorded in the United States.

Rebuttal: While a majority of the sightings and recordings happen in the United States, there are still recordings around the world for thousands of years. UFO sightings are commonly associated with the United States because the media publicizes the sightings, while a majority of the sightings that happened in other countries happened when there was no technology to share the findings.

Argument: There are infinite universes yet to be discovered and will most likely not be discovered.

Rebuttal: Technology is constantly advancing and scientists are striving to explore more and more of the universe. Although it may take some time, it is still extremely possible to search throughout the universe for any signs of extraterrestrial life.
