Book Title: The Literary Editing Project (The LEP)
Subtitle: An Educational Editing Process-Method for Manuscripts
Book Description: The LEP is a descriptive grammatical and linguistic checklist in webbook format that has been developed by McIntoshLinguistics. This checklist is geared towards the development of literary manuscripts that are highly readable (close reading) and grammatically sound (effective writing).
The LEP (a process) in combination with MCINTOSHFORMS™ (a method) helps you analyze/review your literary manuscript through the lens of syntax & semantics, orthography (punctuation and document shape) and readability (clarity).
The process identifies some of the most integral operatives involved in constructing a highly readable and semantically sound literary manuscript. The method finds (by highlighting) these operatives, which include words, phrases, clauses, punctuation and the use of literary devices, address SSORE. The resulting process-method has been developed for use in manuscripts constructed in MS Word.
While The LEP focuses on the editing process, it also reinforces the importance of the writer taking it upon himself or herself to study every nuance and aspect of English, should he or she want to be further empowered to tell stories that delve into the very psychology of its characters, milieu and narrative devices.
The LEP is divided into three distinct subject matters:
- Syntax & Semantics (sentence arrangement, morphology, etc.)
- Orthography (writing conventions, i.e., punctuation)
- Readability Elements (clarity via syntactic coordination, use of narrative devices, etc.)
