Introduction
Martina Vasil
Every year since I began teaching at the university level, I have had difficulty finding a textbook that would include all the aspects of teaching elementary general music that I wanted to see. Either the existing books had far too much to cover for a 200-level undergraduate course, or the books did not have all the topics I thought were important to cover. This is how I came to writing this book.
This book is decidedly situated within the state of Kentucky and is why I invited four outstanding elementary music teachers to contribute to the materials in this book. I want my students to know exactly what they are walking into when they observe and teach in their practicum settings, when they get into student teaching, and when attain their first job. Of course, I cannot prepare them for every scenario or type of school they will encounter, but I hope this book will do much to help.
Students, the future of teaching is in your hands. I’m so excited to see you thrive.
