ACGME MILESTONES
Medical trainees in ACGME residencies are assessed every 6 months using milestones assessments. The six domains of educational and clinical knowledge, skills, and attitudes that physicians must develop for independent and autonomous practice are for residents in all specialties and include those pertaining to:
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
- Systems-Based Practice
- Professionalism
- Medical Knowledge
- Patient care and procedural skills
- Practice-Based Learning and Improvement
For rotations related to reproductive health, training programs may consider incorporating specific milestones into end of rotation evaluations. For example:
Family Medicine residents could be assessed on “Patient care 5: Management of Procedural Care” (ACGME 2019). Obstetric and Gynecology residents could be assessed on “Patient Care 2: First Trimester Bleeding” (ACGME 2021).
