Children in Care | Both in care and kinship, spots for events will be given to these children first. |
Nogdawindamin Staff | This is referring to debriefing, consultations, team building, circles etc. This does not include personal requests; this will need to be done on your personal time. |
Families involved with Nogdawindamin | This can be for open or closed files. Bio parents must be consulted and invited when ever possible. It is apart of their healing. |
AC Families and Communities | This is also for kinship parents as well. |
Steps for Registration for Nogdawindamin Events:

- Be in contact with other workers on file, decide who is going to follow up and hand in.
- Deliver package to interested youth in form care takers.
- Help complete application and submit.
- There is a portion on behaviours to be completed. This helps us to have an understanding of the youth’s needs. Also a place for the workers CONTACT INFORMATION. The worker is the Cultural Departments first contact, if we have issues with youth.
- Youth may need supplies that require P.O’s.
- Help arrange Transportation.
Nogdawindamin Anishinaabe Aadziwin Referral Process
Throughout the year the Anishinaabe Aadziwin team hosts and co-hosts various events. A large portion of these events are for youth and communities involved along the north shore of Lake Huron. An average of 20 spaces are available for each of these events. It is the workers responsibility to inform youth and their families, sign registration & consent forms and return to the Cultural Department.

The referral system is electronically based.
- Submit referral by going to web address
- Click lower link
- Fill out form (Need your contact info)
- Can choose a max of 3 options. If unsure,
- Submit referral to discuss more with Traditional Knowledge Keeper – initial visit (consultation)
- It will be discussed what the next steps should be in consultation with the TKK
- Referral submission goes to Case Manager, who determines which Traditional Knowledge Keeper it goes to, then notifies the clerk
- The Clerk follows up with the TKK and the worker to schedule date and time.
Safety:
- Worker always needs to be with community member on 1st visit.
- Cultural services staff is never left alone with community member
What to Record:
- Workers responsibility to put notes into dbase,
- Use Information on the referral form:
- Date, Time, Location,
- What ever requested,
- Participants present, Staff present.
Facilitator Tip:
- Have some personal examples to show the importance.
- Explanation of each event will be in detail throughout week.
Referral Responsibility Chart
For all referrals the Workers responsibilities are:
- Community members consent prior to referral
- Referral for consultation prior to any ceremony

- If don’t know ASK before sending in referral for ceremonies
- Inform Cultural Service provider of pertinent/safety issues, Cultural Workers need to know what they are walking into
- Tobacco for Community Member if needed
- Make apt with family and cultural staff via clerk if necessary
- Various Purchase Orders if needed (food, supplies etc)
- Accompany community member to visit if needed, mandatory for first visit
- Strongly encourage workers to be present at ceremonies for support
- Ensure Bio family apart of planning (taking lead)
- Transportation if needed
- Strong encourage Knowledge Carriers to be apart of Case Conferences, this will assist with prevention strategies NOT just crisis management. Stories to illustrate importance
