The NOA for Carpenter (2013) identifies the required competencies (skills) for the task of scheduling the work sequence. These are:

Devise a sequence of steps to ensure an efficient and safe process, and a quality product

Coordinate the delivery of materials to maintain schedule and sequencing of project

Coordinate work with other trades

Estimate time to complete tasks

Adapt to changing conditions such as rain, snow and wind

Develop alternate plans to account for changes in schedule (NOA, p. 25)

A construction schedule presents the timelines for specific work scopes of a construction project. Sequencing is done in the order of completion and the schedule is used for delivery of materials and coordination of subtrades to ensure budget is maintained and completion timelines are monitored during the project. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances such as weather and delivery delays may result in changes to the schedule. The construction schedule starts with site planning and preparation and includes all the work done until completion. After final inspection, deficiencies are corrected before turning the building over to the owner.
