Key Competencies NOA
The NOA for Carpenter (2013) also identifies the competencies (tasks) for the task of fabricating finish components. This includes:
- Select and use tools and equipment such as nailers, table saws, routers and planers
- Select stock for quality and uniformity
- Cut, measure and assemble components such as custom doors, access hatches and handrails according to manufacturers’ specifications or site requirements
- Cut, measure and assemble built-in units such as cabinets, shelves, walk-in closets, mantels, and counter tops according to manufacturers’ specifications or site requirements
- Cut, measure and assemble special trims such as jamb extensions, window sills and aprons according to manufacturers’ specifications or site requirements
- Construct jigs for repetitive fabrication (NOA, p. 72).
