Study Tips: Create a Summary from a Lecture

The best way to summarize a lecture is by note taking.  Taking notes is a bit of a skill in itself.  Luckily there are some tried and true methods that people use.  Watch this video to get an overview of three methods of note taking: Outline, Cornell, and Mind Map.

Exercise

Now, re-watch the video, and take notes using the “Cornell” as described in the video.  Divide your page as follows into three sections: Key Points, Details, and Summary.

As the video progresses, outline the points within the details section.  Draw any sketches or highlight any main points in the key points section.

Once the video is complete, take a minute, and summarize the entire video in two or three sentences.
