Study Tips: How to Use This Student Manual

This manual is intended to guide you through the course material, but it is not a complete resource.  You will need to use all references at your disposal:

  • the Saskpolytechnic Course Module Instruction Sheets (are linked where referenced)
  • the Carpentry textbook
  • the National Building Code

When you read this student manual, there will be sections you are familiar with.  Read these sections briefly and don’t dwell on them.  Other sections in this manual will be relatively new to you.  Take the time and delve into all the details available to you.  Take notes, create a glossary, make flashcards, or use other methods to study.  So, this student manual is a roadmap.  Summaries in the manual are meant to trigger your memory, but aren’t complete sources of information.

Order of Topics

The course is split into four quarters; roughly one for each level of training.  You may revisit topics throughout the course: a good example is concrete.  The idea is that by revisiting topics throughout the course, it will help keep them in your memory for the Red Seal Exam.

This student manual is not a complete resource for your study.  You will need to reference other materials to get more information on topics you are less familiar with.
