Conducting a Progress Check

The primary goal of the Progress Check meeting is to provide a thorough understanding of Quality Matters Program procedures at Boise State, and evaluate how well your course is progressing in terms of meeting Quality Matters Standards. We will review 21 of the “Essential” (3 point) Quality Matters standards. If you’re missing a couple of standards, this activity will help you identify them so that you can meet them before your course is taught.

Quality Matters™ Rubric Standards (Fifth Edition, 2014)

Step 01. Check to confirm that a Google document of your Quality Matters Progress Check has been shared with you and your Instructional Designer (in your course design documents folder).

Step 02. Complete the progress check together with your consultant. If you have not already set up a meeting for this activity, you should do so as soon as possible.

This activity will also help you meet the following learning objectives:

B1. Explain the key characteristics of a high-quality online course.

D2. Check all objectives against Quality Matters Standards 2.1 through 2.5 to help ensure constructive alignment and high-quality course design.

E7. Check assessments against Quality Matters Standards 3.1-3.3 to help ensure constructive alignment and high-quality course design.

I10. Check instructional materials against Quality Matters Standards 4.1-4.2 and 8.3 to help ensure constructive alignment and high-quality course design.

G7. Check learner activities against Quality Matters Standard 5.1and 6.1 to help ensure constructive alignment and Standards 5.2, 5.3, and 6.2 to help ensure high-quality course design.

K6. Check course overview and introduction and learner support against Quality Matters Standards 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 7.1, 7.2, 8.1 and 8.2 to help ensure high-quality course design.

NOTE: You don’t have to finish course development in order to begin the Quality Matters Progress Check. Completing the QM progress check is a requirement of completing the seminar, as the exercise can be effective even while development is underway.
