Design Directions

Please consider this effort a work in progress that you will continue to revise. We do not expect for you to submit a finalized, completed syllabus. Perhaps you will use this time to review the syllabus template and discuss aspects in the eCampus template and how you plan to design your own.
Objectives:

K5. Use the Course Design Map and Student Evaluation Plan to help you complete the syllabus.

a. Schedule of all learning activities.
b. Assessments with due dates and times in each module.
c. Grading scheme with an explanation.

Introduction

In this design task, you will begin working on a draft of your syllabus using the Online Syllabus Template found in the Course Design Documents folder. The goal is to synthesize what you have read so far and bring together the information you have in your Course Design Map, Course Analysis, and other Design Task submissions to create a well-rounded, informational syllabus that guides your online students toward success.

Your syllabus draft should include:

• a high-level overview of course activities and assessments (leave details to the modules)
• the most current student grading plan for your course
• participation guidelines (keep or revise what has been provided)
• any additional course-related information you (or your department) think is necessary
• a rough schedule

We suggest you spend no more than about 60 minutes this week to create this draft of your syllabus. If you wish to spend more time at it, you are welcome to do so, but this will not be expected. By preparing only a rough draft, you are more likely to incorporate feedback from colleagues, suggestions from your Instructional Design Consultant, and additional details as the Development process brings about new ways of thinking. You will submit your draft this week for feedback.

Task

1. Navigate to the eCD2S Syllabus Template design document in your Course Design Documents folder for your course.
2. Review and revise the template, or create your own syllabus draft for your course.
3. Customize the template contents as needed to make the document your own.
   1. Review the template annotations to help ensure that your syllabus is complete.
   2. Keep, reword, or delete text in purple as desired.
   3. Keep all policy information in black.
   4. If you decide to remove something from the syllabus, please add a comment to explain how you plan to meet the associated quality matters standard elsewhere in the course.
4. This is the first draft, and may not represent a complete syllabus. When you are ready to share your draft for feedback, proceed to the design task submission link below where you will notify the seminar instructors of its status.
