Module 10: Drafting Your Initial Communication

Module Overview

Please review the resources, tools and guidelines in this module that will prepare you for communication with students that help your course to meet Quality Matters Standards and Department of Education Regulations.

Learning Objectives:

L1: Write an initial email that will be sent to students before the course begins, that includes the following:

  • A welcome to the course,
  • Directions on how to access the course,
  • Directions to work on the Getting Started module at any time,
  • A tone that communicates enthusiasm toward (a) the subject matter, (b) the students’ ability to learn, (c) the opportunity to teach.

L2: Write a course announcement to welcome students to the online course, that includes the following:

  • A brief welcome message with positive statements (see K1)
  • Instructions to begin the Getting Started module as soon as possible.

L3: Create icebreaker activities to help students become acquainted.
