“Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.”
John C. Maxwell

I have been enjoying my Instant Pot for a good year now, but I find that reading the labeling of the venting switch is difficult.  Especially when I need to toggle between venting and sealing.  I pull out a flashlight to brighten the lettering so I can see it better.  Doing this was getting old.  With the help of my daughter, she painted the raised lettering so that it is now easy to read. Merely applying a tiny bit of nail polish gave me direction.

I wondered if I was having this problem, were others also?

I took a photo and posted it to the Facebook group titled Instant Pot 101 for beginners explaining the simple solution. The next day I was scrolling through Facebook and saw that my post had 3.6K likes and 381 comments. What struck me was the simple act of sharing knowledge allowed others to be empowered.

When considering great leadership,  one key attribute rises to the top of the leadership style: mentoring others. A leader can mentor someone by teaching, guiding, and lifting others through offering his or her experience and insight. As a leader, you are often a little farther ahead on the path, although that doesn’t always mean you’re older. A mentor is someone with a head full of experience and heart full of humanity that brings those elements together in someone else’s life.

Lead by pouring wisdom and insight into the next generation. To be a mentor, learn about yourself.  Journal and reflect on what is going right, what is going wrong, and what you will do in the future to stay on the path of success.

Find a mentor yourself.

Creating reliable, capable future leaders is one of the core functions of all leaders. It’s not just their job to ensure success today but also to set the stage for success tomorrow and beyond. This means the leader must always have one eye trained on the future and the people who will take it there. The best way to accomplish this is to develop future leaders with your time, advice, and insight for their personal growth.

Mentorship is a tried and trusted method for developing the best leaders of tomorrow.

I encourage you to seek out those that you lead and mentor them. People are watching you as a leader. The team is watching intently on every move you make, listening to every word you say. The most significant way to learn is by seeing. The power of proximity incredibly strong. Allow for someone to watch you and give your time.

No one gets to the top alone. We all have help. This is why I’ve made mentoring such a crucial part of my personal and professional growth, and for that reason, it is why I mentor people along the way.

A Recipe for Your InstaPot

Potatoes are one of my favorite foods.  They are versatile and now with the instant pot the days of boiling water, adding potatoes and then poking them with a fork to check for doneness is over! Steaming Potatoes in an Instant Pot yields a wonderful texture. Once the potatoes have cooked it is time to make fluffy and creamy Mashed Potatoes.  It is a time saver for the holidays too.
