“Communication in Action: Practical Lessons for Everyday English” is a book designed by the University of Mindanao’s BA English Language Studies ELS323 (Language Curriculum Development) class that aims to develop English language proficiency for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) learners across three distinct levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. This book serves as supplementary material for Training of Trainer (ToT) programs, with a special focus on enhancing the language skills of PDLs. designed to foster English language proficiency across three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, with content specifically adapted for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in rehabilitation. This book, crafted as supplementary material for Training of Trainer (ToT) programs, emphasizes functional language skills that support personal development, communication, and reintegration into society.
The book builds language proficiency in three core areas—Conversational, Technical, and Creative. At the Beginner level, learners will demonstrate the ability to engage in simple interpersonal exchanges using basic phrases, grasp essential workplace vocabulary, and produce creative writing with clear, simple expression. The Intermediate level encourages learners to navigate everyday scenarios, converse with increasing fluidity in routine interactions, apply technical language in practical settings, and critically analyze creative works, laying a foundation for deeper engagement with literature. By the Advanced level, learners will focus on achieving conversational fluency, using complex structures and strategies to participate in extended discussions.
