What is a community?

        A society is composed of different people interacting and socializing with each other; they are living with the goal of achieving common purpose, fostering cooperation, and maintaining peaceful surroundings. In a society, there exists a community, this community is a group of people who share similar interests, values, and have something in common (Bell & Newby, 2021). A community can interact with each other to be able to create and build connections and relationships among these people; these communities can be composed of a small or large group as long as they share something in common. In a community, people come together to help each other, share ideas, and work toward a common goal.  Being part of a community is important because it allows people to feel connected and have a support system within their surroundings.

Community Profiling

A community profile is a detailed description that highlights the key characteristics, roles, and contributions of individuals or organizations within a community. It serves to inform others about the people that help shape the community’s identity and function. A community profile includes important information such as the name of the person, their role or job, their contributions to the community, and their interesting facts. By creating this community profiles, individuals can effectively communicate the importance of local contributors and promote a sense of belonging and connection among community members.

 

Activity 2: Creating a community profile

Instruction: Try to interview three people in your community. Ask them their name, role/job, contributions to your community, and interesting facts about them. Refer to the following sample below.

Creative

Short Story Making

A short story is a piece of fiction that is brief and short that tells a complete story. This type of story is a quick read, but they can still be exciting and engaging. Short stories usually have a clear beginning, middle, and end and focus on one main event or idea. The following are some basic parts of a short story:

  1. Settings – this refers to the time and place in which the story occurs.
  2. Character – this refers to the people who are involved in the story.
  3. Conflict – this refers to the problem that the characters are facing in the story.
  4. Resolution – this refers to how the conflict is resolved by the end of the story.

     

Activity 3: A Day in My Community

Instruction: In this activity, you will be creating a three sentences short story which is about the day in your community. In creating your short story, be creative and imaginative.

         

      Sample 

In the morning, I went to the cafeteria and saw Frank, the cook. When I saw him, he looked sad because the food was still not ready for lunch. I helped him cook, and we finished on time. In the afternoon, the people in my cell block entered the cafeteria and got all their food. At night, I helped Frank prepare the food for the next day.
